In my previous post I mentioned that I had a trip booked to go home and see my family in July. I was so nervous that something would happen and we wouldn’t be able to go. Well something did happen, my son caught a rash of some sort about a week before we were supposed to take off.
“Hand, Foot, Mouth” was going around in our area at the time so I was sure that he must have caught that. That rash is highly contagious and takes about 7 to 10 days to clear up. I took him to the doctor to see if that is what he had, but thankfully she said he did not. She wasn’t sure what caused it but did a test for Strep Throat and told us to test for Covid with an at home test. She also said that he shouldn’t have any problems getting on a plane, and to just make sure he wore his mask (which was mandatory on the plane anyway).
So I had to stay home from work with Elliott while we waited for his rash to go away. All the tests came back negative so I still do not know what he had. Thankfully it was gone a day or two before we had to leave.
Our flight was booked for early morning so I set my alarm for about 4:30am. As soon as I woke up I checked my phone to see the flight status and it said it was delayed for two hours. It wasn’t a huge deal because we had a three hour layover around lunch time, which was shortened to 1 hour because of the delay. It did mean that we didn’t have time to buy lunch at the connecting airport though. By the time we got to our final destination around 9 or 10pm we were pretty hungry since we only had breakfast and plane snacks.
But other than hunger, the plane ride went pretty smoothly. Elliott was well behaved on the plane, which was one of my worries since it was his first plane trip. He slept and watched shows on the tablet.
We spent the week by the ocean with my parents and my brother’s family. Elliott loved visiting the beach for the first time and spending time with his cousins whom he met last summer when they came out to visit us. The weather was perfect while we were there, which was another worry of mine. Nova Scotia tends to be pretty rainy, but they had a heat wave while we were there so it was hot and sunny everyday of our trip. I even got to go “camping” by staying in my parents tent trailer which was parked outside of the house.
Our trip also coincided with two birthday parties. The first one was for my cousin’s child who turned 3, and the second was for my dad who turned 70. So I was able to see many family members while I was home.
Unfortunately I wasn’t able to see everyone I wanted to see, such as my grandmother and some of my other cousins. But we still has a great time regardless.
