Pelvic Ultrasound

I made it to the appointment. YES! In case you didn’t read my last post, I had to drink 4 cups of water to prep for my pelvic ultrasound but was unable to hold it all in. Basically, I was standing at the bus stop about to burst and decided that there was no way I was going to make it there without peeing my pants. So I ran back home and barely made it to the bathroom. I think I figured out what I did wrong last week. My appointment last week was for 1:30 pm and I was worried about being too hungry by the time I got there. So I tried to keep myself full by having a smoothie in the morning. That was mistake number one. It kept me full, but I think it probably put too many liquids in my body as well. The second mistake, and maybe the biggest one, was that I started drinking too early. I wasn’t sure how long it would take me to drink a litre of water so I started about an hour and a half before I had to be done drinking.

So when I called to reschedule my appointment I was told to drink 3 cups instead of 4 cups. I practised drinking three cups over the next week to see how long it took to drink (about 30 mins). I also remembered that I had a pair of jeans in my closet that I never wear because they are too big and need a belt to keep them up. They were perfect for this situation. My appointment today was at 9 am which was a much better time because I wouldn’t have to worry as much about getting hungry. In the morning I woke up, had a banana for breakfast, then started drinking my three cups of water. When I was done drinking I was worried that I didn’t have enough liquid in me because I didn’t feel like I had to pee. If you don’t have enough liquid, they can’t do the ultrasound. I contemplated drinking more but changed my mind and decided to just go for it and see what happened. While I was on the bus I started to feel my bladder complaining and by the time I was sitting in the waiting room I was very uncomfortable, so I’m very glad I didn’t have that fourth cup of water.

They took me right at the time of the appointment and led me to a room to change. I had to take my clothes off leaving underwear and bra on. Then you put on a robe with the open part facing front. Then they take you to the room where they do the ultrasound. They put this gel on your stomach that is very warm at first, but cools as they do the ultrasound. If I had drank that extra cup of water I’m pretty sure I would have exploded while the ultrasound was being done. They put the tool right on the parts that made you need to pee so bad. The procedure probably only took about 10 minutes, then I got to go get dressed and she made sure to show me where the bathroom was haha. She said they should have results of the test in a couple days. I didn’t get to see anything that they saw and she didn’t tell me about anything that she saw. I guess I’ll just have to wait and see what they find out.

  1. At least it was pelvic and not the other one lol They NEVER let you see anything! Kind of stupid since it’s YOUR body, but whatever! Hopefully it won’t be anything to worry about.

    1. @MelanieM, I wouldn’t mind if it was the other kind of ultrasound haha. I’m pretty sure I was born to be a mother. But I guess that will come with time.

      1. @Deanna, No doubt! You will be a fabulous mother some day! I meant the super fun vaginal ultrasounds… those are awesome (not).

  2. I’m glad you managed to get it done!!! I hope you will get good news then.

  3. I hope the results comes back fine! <3

  4. I didn’t know you needed to do that for an ultrasound. At least you could eat and didn’t have to fast.

I hope the results come back ok 🙂

    1. @Kalliste, yeah I didn’t know you had to do that for an ultrasound either. My friend told me you have to do that for the baby ultrasounds too which just seems mean lol. I guess the liquid pushes your organs out of the way so they can see better when doing the ultrasound.

  5. Sorry I don’t get to come by your blog often anymore, which makes it hard to stay in touch. 🙁

Yeah, it’s definitely a good thing to have appointments for tests in the morning so that you wouldn’t be starving yourself all day.

I hope the results came back okay!!!

  6. Good that you were able to get it done! I didn’t know you had to drink that much water before an ultrasound. Keeping my fingers crossed the results come back with good news 🙂

    1. @Karin, I guess the water pushes your organs out of the way so they are able to see better when doing the ultrasound.

  7. I hope the results are good news. Fingers are crossed for you!
