Beautiful Walk Home

I got to walk home from work today for the first time since probably last fall. I walk to work every day but I only walk home if the sun is still up. It’s something I’ve been looking forward to all winter.

There is something I find so calming about being able to walk home. I don’t have to rely on anyone to pick me up. If I’m off work early I don’t have to wait, I can just go. I guess the same would be true if I had my own vehicle but I haven’t yet been able to justify the cost.

Plus I like that I’m getting exercise. That’s actually one thing that concerns me about getting a car. I think it would make me lazier and I really don’t want that. I like that if I need to get somewhere, I can walk. If I started driving I’m not sure I would still choose to walk.

But at the same time, I come from a family that enjoys walking. My mom goes for walks pretty much every day and usually drags my dad out with her. She used to think it was so silly when our neighbor would drive less than a minute down the road to check the mail. Last summer I got mad at my boyfriend became he wanted to drive to the grocery store instead of walk the five minutes it takes to get there.

So maybe it’s ingrained in me to walk and I would only drive when I really needed to. I have actually been seriously thinking about buying a car over the last six months or so. I know what car I want but I don’t think I can afford it. I keep trying to decide whether I even need one. But I do want to relearn how to drive.

I was going to learn using my boyfriend’s car, but then he traded it for a huge truck. There’s no way I’m going to try driving that monster. We’ll see what the next few months brings.
