First Thanksgiving

As some of you may know, Thanksgiving was last weekend here in Canada. I really love holidays and everything that goes along with it like decorating and getting together with family and friends. Since my family lives on the other side of the country I couldn’t spend the holiday with them, so my boyfriend and I decided to cook our first Thanksgiving dinner together and hoped it turned out edible. We invited his best friend and his g/f who also brought one of her children. Thankfully everything turned out perfect. We made turkey, stuffing, gravy, sweet potatoes with marshmallows (hit of the dinner), caramelized butternut squash (first time making/having that), biscuits, apple pie, and beets (although I’m pretty sure I was the only one that ate them). I couldn’t really find any Thanksgiving decorations that I liked and that didn’t cost a million dollars but I did find some holiday crackers. Apparently most people don’t even know what they are. Only me and my bf’s best friend had had them before. For those of you also in the dark, they are long shaped items that you pull on both ends which makes a loud noise, then inside you have a paper hat, a joke, and a prize. My family would always have them at Thanksgiving and Christmas time and it’s a tradition that I would love to continue with. All in all, I would say it was a perfect Thanksgiving. But I will say that I am way more thankful now for all the Thanksgivings I’ve ever attended in the past where I did not have to do any of the cooking. It’s a lot of work! If I never had to peel another butternut squash in my life I will be satisfied.
