As some of you may know, Thanksgiving was last weekend here in Canada. I really love holidays and everything that goes along with it like decorating and getting together with family and friends. Since my family lives on the other side of the country I couldn’t spend the holiday with them, so my boyfriend and I decided to cook our first Thanksgiving dinner together and hoped it turned out edible. We invited his best friend and his g/f who also brought one of her children. Thankfully everything turned out perfect. We made turkey, stuffing, gravy, sweet potatoes with marshmallows (hit of the dinner), caramelized butternut squash (first time making/having that), biscuits, apple pie, and beets (although I’m pretty sure I was the only one that ate them). I couldn’t really find any Thanksgiving decorations that I liked and that didn’t cost a million dollars but I did find some holiday crackers. Apparently most people don’t even know what they are. Only me and my bf’s best friend had had them before. For those of you also in the dark, they are long shaped items that you pull on both ends which makes a loud noise, then inside you have a paper hat, a joke, and a prize. My family would always have them at Thanksgiving and Christmas time and it’s a tradition that I would love to continue with. All in all, I would say it was a perfect Thanksgiving. But I will say that I am way more thankful now for all the Thanksgivings I’ve ever attended in the past where I did not have to do any of the cooking. It’s a lot of work! If I never had to peel another butternut squash in my life I will be satisfied.

October 18, 2013 at 9:33 amIt sounds like you had a nice dinner together although I do think sweet potatoes together with marshmallows sounds weird :).
So there I got the answer to a question I’ve had, that you peeps in Canada celebrate Thanksgiving a lot earlier than the people in the US.

October 18, 2013 at 6:12 pm@Susanne, Yeah, I did reply to your comment on Instagram too. I think we’re a month earlier than the US. I think it’s nicer having it in October because you have a little break before you have a similar occasion for Christmas.

October 18, 2013 at 7:17 pmI can imagine that! The American Thanksgiving is so close to Christmas, it must be nice to have a good family holiday earlier.
It’s weird that Instagram doesn’t send notifications when someone replies to a comment, unless they mention you. I thought I had asked about that somewhere but couldn’t remember where. 🙂

October 22, 2013 at 7:54 amWow looks like you guys had a great Thanksgiving…the food looks delicious! Our Thanksgiving is the end of November, and I’m thinking about making dinner over at our place and inviting people over instead of going home this year. Hopefully it won’t be too daunting of a task!
