# Stubborn Ox ## Posts - [New Beginnings](https://stubbornox.net/new-beginnings/): My maternity leave ended and I have returned to work. Both my boys started daycare in the middle of July and it’s been going okay. My 1 year old cried at drop off for the first 2 weeks but was okay after I left. He still cries occasionally, but not every time I leave now. They always say that when kids start daycare they will be sick all the time. I can confirm that it’s true. Someone has been sick every week since they began. And I don’t see any end in sight. First it was the 1 year old, […] - [Website Woes](https://stubbornox.net/website-woes/): I’ve been trying to get my website updated again. But recently ran into a problem. I added a subdomain to play around on, but then the SubbornOx website started to redirect to the subdomain. I deleted the subdomain and then there was a database error. So I don’t really know what happened exactly, but long story short, there are a lot of errors on the website right now. Mainly pictures are missing, but if you find any other issues, please note that I am working on it. - [Sleeping with a Newborn](https://stubbornox.net/sleeping-with-a-newborn/): Everyone always talks about how you are not going to get much sleep once you have a baby, and yes it is true. But it is usually not as bad as they say it is, at least not in our house. Maybe I am just blessed with good sleepers. For the first month of Dominic’s life, sleep was pretty good. I was feeling pretty proud of myself for being able to get both my 4.5 year old and the baby down for a nap at the same time. I would have enough time to shower while they both stayed asleep! […] - [Birth Story Two](https://stubbornox.net/birth-story-two/): I was one week away from my due date and ready to have my baby come out. Around 9:30am I went for a 30 minute walk in the morning to try and get things moving. My belly felt a little sore now and then but nothing crazy. Once I got home, I wasn’t sure if I was feeling contractions or not so I started timing them for fun. They were pretty consistent, but not super long. Around 11am, after tracking for an hour I sent my boyfriend a text to let him know I was feeling contractions, but I wasn’t […] - [Five Months Later...](https://stubbornox.net/five-months-later/): Not a lot has happened since my last blog post. I had a few more ultrasounds since January and baby is still measuring right on for his due date. I had planned on working until June 30th (next week) but my body has been getting tired and sore so I decided to stop working a week early. Yesterday was my last day of work, at 37 weeks pregnant. Because of my age, the doctor wants to induce me at 39 weeks, so we are almost there! In preparation, I have moved my office area downstairs to the family room so […] - [New Year, New Baby!](https://stubbornox.net/new-year-new-baby/): We are expecting our second (and final) baby this year. We had been trying to get pregnant for just over a year and found out I was pregnant in November. This pregnancy has been more difficult than my last one so far. When I was pregnant with Elliott, I had things pretty easy. I had barely any symptoms, no morning sickness, no aches and pains. But this time, I felt sick for most of the first trimester. If I didn’t eat fast enough, I felt like I was going to throw up (although I never did). But then when I […] - [Gardening Success](https://stubbornox.net/gardening-success/): This year was my most successful gardening experience. Last year I tried to plant a bunch of food in my garden, but anytime something started to grow, the birds would eat the plant. This year I bought netting to put over the garden until the plants were able to establish themselves. In my garden box I planted watermelon, carrots, peas, corn, and pumpkin. Everything except the watermelon grew! I probably shouldn’t have planted so many things in one spot, but I wasn’t even expecting anything to grow haha. I also planted tomatoes in a pot which did grow, but did […] - [Nova Scotia Vacation](https://stubbornox.net/nova-scotia-vacation/): In my previous post I mentioned that I had a trip booked to go home and see my family in July. I was so nervous that something would happen and we wouldn’t be able to go. Well something did happen, my son caught a rash of some sort about a week before we were supposed to take off. “Hand, Foot, Mouth” was going around in our area at the time so I was sure that he must have caught that. That rash is highly contagious and takes about 7 to 10 days to clear up. I took him to the […] - [Back to School](https://stubbornox.net/back-to-school/): I started my Bookkeeping course last month. I am already half way through the third of five classes. I was worried about staying up late, and rightly so. I feel bad for my teacher because I probably look so bored and by the end of the class I can hardly keep my eyes open. But instead of being up until 10pm, at least he tries to end the class around 9:20pm. So far I am not having any trouble following along with the course work. I have dealt with many of the topics being discussed while working as the manager […] - [It's My Birthday!](https://stubbornox.net/its-my-birthday/): I have made it another year around the sun. Birthdays are slowly becoming less important as I get older. I don’t really have any plans for my birthday this year. I wanted to get my hair cut but the weather is very grey and rainy so I don’t really want to leave my house. I am also not feeling my best self lately. I finally caught Covid in April and haven’t really felt myself since. I was one of the lucky ones who lost their sense of taste and smell which was very interesting. It was gone for 5 days […] - [Happy New Year!](https://stubbornox.net/happy-new-year/): I recently moved my website to a new hosting company due to the previous one shutting down. I always forget how much work it is to get a website moved to a new host. I decided to change my website layout, but still use the same background picture that I did with the last one, since I still really like it. I think I have finally finished making changes to it and hopefully everything is now working. I worked on updating and fixing all the pages including the Alberta Events sections of the website. I have also started adding events […] - [Elliott Meets His Cousins](https://stubbornox.net/elliott-meets-his-cousins/): Elliott is now 2 and a half years old and has barely met any of his family. This is partially thanks to the pandemic and to the fact that we live so far away from everyone. The last time he saw any family was at least a year ago, maybe two years. He last saw his Lolo and Lola when he was 7 months old and only met his Nanny and Granddad once when he was 4 months old! Now that the pandemic seems to be calming down a bit, my brother who lives in Quebec decided to come to […] - [Welcome to 2021](https://stubbornox.net/welcome-to-2021/): Hello! Long time, no see. I figured that maybe I should do a new introduction. My name is Deanna and I live in Alberta, Canada. I grew up on the ocean in Nova Scotia, Canada but moved almost 10 years ago! I had a baby in 2019 and he just turned 2 years old. We also just bought our first house this summer and are still learning how to be a homeowner. We were hoping to get some house projects done this winter, but that didn’t work out due to money uncertainty. I am dealing with finding a new employer […] - [Moving Sucks](https://stubbornox.net/moving-sucks/): I forgot how much moving sucks. It was probably worse this time because we had accumulated so much stuff since the last time we moved. We received the keys on August 25 around 2pm. We were hoping to get three rooms painted that day, but also expected to get the keys closer to noon. We ended up not even getting one room finished. By the end of the week, we (or more like my boyfriend, as I didn’t get to do any of the painting) only got two rooms finished. But that’s okay, the other room can wait. On August […] - [We Bought a House!](https://stubbornox.net/we-bought-a-house/): In my last blog post I talked about a house that dropped into our price range and I knew we should go see it right away. This house was bigger than all the other houses we had already seen. The rooms were all a great size. The basement, although ugly and in major need of updates, wasn’t as bad as it looked in the pictures. It had a nice big yard and already had a garden which I was hoping to have in my future house. I was happy with this house and told my boyfriend we should put in […] - [House Shopping](https://stubbornox.net/house-shopping/): We have been wanting to buy a house for a long time now. About 5 or 6 years ago we did a house search but the houses in our price range were just not the right size for us. Fast forward to this year, and we are really starting to outgrow our townhouse rental. Having a baby has really filled the place up and we have run out of room. Due to the pandemic, housing prices have fallen and we have been using that to our advantage. We have been casually been looking at houses online for a while. Last […] - [Back to Work, Again](https://stubbornox.net/back-to-work-again/): I went back to work again last week after our temporary layoff from March. It was a lot easier than when I went back from mat leave. I wasn’t exhausted when I got home like I was before. But it’s a whole different experience than working in the past now that we are dealing with a pandemic. Everyone in the store is asked to wear a mask. While the masks aren’t necessarily uncomfortable, they make your face so hot. I start overheating and have to take it off for a minute every now and then. I’ve also found that my […] - [Stopping the Bottle](https://stubbornox.net/stopping-the-bottle/): They say you should try to have your baby off the bottle by their first birthday. I was fully prepared to do that but had no idea where to start. I was unable to find any real advice online for this which I found surprising. When we went to the doctor for Elliott’s one year checkup, he didn’t seem too concerned about him being on the bottle which I was also surprised by. Dropping his afternoon bottles sort of happened by mistake. I went back to work and his dad was in charge. He decided to skip one or two […] - [Rough Start Back at Work](https://stubbornox.net/rough-start-back-at-work/): My first week back at work was a little rough. I was exhausted at the end of each night and went to bed at pretty much the same time as Elliott did. After that first week things started to get a little easier and we began to find a routine. Supper wasn’t as much of a problem as I thought it was going to be, but we have been eating takeout a lot more than before. Elliott didn’t have any problems adjusting to the Day Home. I think he enjoys going. There are always kids there to play with since […] - [Milestones Timeline](https://stubbornox.net/milestones-timeline/): It’s been fun watching my son Elliott learn and grow throughout his first year of life. I’m so thankful I was able to be home and see all the little (and big) changes he has gone through. Here is a list of firsts and new skills he has gone through over his first year of life. January 17: Elliott was bornJanuary 18: Visited his first store (Walmart)January 19: First Doctor’s appointmentJanuary 20: First bath at home (he had one in the hospital on the 18th)January 21: First grocery store visitJanuary 22: Had his first booger (haha)January 23: His cord fell […] - [Going Back to Work](https://stubbornox.net/going-back-to-work/): I am heading back to work on the 29th after having a year off for maternity leave. I can’t really say that I’m excited for it or that I missed working. If you ever have the opportunity to take a long period of time off from work, I highly recommend it. I loved having the freedom to go out what it was nice and go for walks or visit the zoo. Or when the weather was terrible, just staying snuggled up at home. But that is all about the end. Elliott is going to start going to his Day Home […] - [Baby Outings](https://stubbornox.net/baby-outings/): Over the last year I enjoyed finding activities to do with my son. For the first few months we pretty much didn’t go anywhere, mainly because I was scared and still trying to figure everything out. I took him out for our first walk in the stroller in March when he was almost 2 months old. He slept for most of it. In May my parents came out from Nova Scotia to meet Elliott when he was around 4 months old. We took him out to Jurassic Forest, the Royal Alberta Museum, and the Devon Botanical Gardens. Also in May […] - [The Cost of a Baby](https://stubbornox.net/the-cost-of-a-baby/): It has been one year since I became a mom. I love tracking my finances and before I had my son I made a budget of what I thought it would cost to have a baby. He cost a bit more than expected haha. I had planned to spend about $150 CAD a month on baby supplies. In reality it was more like $300-400 a month. The spending actually started before he was born. When I was pregnant I spent a lot of money on maternity clothes. I would have bought my maternity clothes secondhand but I hope to be […] - [New Layout](https://stubbornox.net/new-layout-2/): So I have another new layout. I didn’t like the last one. There are a few small things I would like to change on this one, but overall I like it. I am really happy with how my background picture turned out. It looks so professional haha. It’s a picture I took when I was in British Columbia a couple of years ago when they had some forest fires burning near by. I’m hoping to write another blog post in the very near future with an update on how my first year with a baby went. But right now I […] - [Site Update](https://stubbornox.net/site-update/): As I’m sure you’ve noticed, I have changed the layout. I’ve been playing around with different layouts so I won’t promise this is the final one. I have also added some new pages. I added a Bucket List under the About Me section. I have also decided (I think) that I am going to close my website called Drag Him Out and just list the Edmonton Events on this website. That way I won’t have to pay for the domain name. But I might also change my mind on that too. I keep going back and forth on whether I […] - [Daily Schedule](https://stubbornox.net/daily-schedule/): As I’m writing this, Elliott is 19 days old (almost three weeks!). I thought I would go over what a day in my life looks like right now. Elliott will sleep for 1 to 3 hour stretches throughout the day and night. He sleeps the best if he is lying on someone, but we try to avoid having him do that because we don’t want to start any bad habits. He also likes to be swaddled but he needs to have his arms out. During the night I try to keep the room dark and I have my white noise […] - [Breastfeeding Journey](https://stubbornox.net/breastfeeding-journey/): Before having a baby I didn’t realize how difficult it was to breastfeed. When Elliott was one week old he had his first doctor’s appointment. He was weighed and checked out by his new doctor. He was already past his birth weight which I was very happy about. We discussed my struggles to get my milk to increase and he wrote me a prescription for Motilium. He also set up an appointment for me to see a Lactation Specialist. My first appointment with the Lactation Specialist was the following day and I really didn’t want to go. At this point […] - [First Week Home](https://stubbornox.net/first-week-home/): On our way home from the hospital we stopped off at Walmart so I could get my pain pill prescription filled. It was going to take about 15 mins, so Dad and Elliott decided to come in. While we waited we also bought a bunch of sleepers for Elliott since we didn’t really have any with feet attached. Beforehand we weren’t sure how big he was going to be so we didn’t want to buy a bunch of newborn clothes that he wasn’t going to fit into. I’m pretty sure we bought every outfit they had haha. During that first […] - [Recovery Sucks](https://stubbornox.net/recovery-sucks/): Before having a baby I thought that the labor would be the hard part. But honestly, my labor was great. I had barely any pain, thanks to the epidural. I would definitely go through labor again if it was as easy as mine was. What I was NOT prepared for was the recovery. At the risk of TMI, it felt like I had poop sticking out of my butt all the time. And walking hurt a lot. I had to walk so slow everywhere because of the pain. Even just standing during those first few days was painful. When using […] - [Hospital Stay](https://stubbornox.net/hospital-stay/): I spent two nights in the hospital. We had nurses coming into the room at least once an hour to check baby and mom. They were checking my blood pressure, both of our temperatures, among other things I don’t even remember. I was given my baby either by my boyfriend or the nurses to feed anytime he was hungry. I had to keep drinking fluids to stay hydrated and so I could fill my bladder and pee. I struggled with getting Elliott to latch to my breast and had multiple nurses throughout my stay tell me and show me how […] - [My Birth Story](https://stubbornox.net/my-birth-story/): On January 16th I went to another ultrasound to check on baby. He was still measuring small but the amount of fluid around him had also decreased. After that appointment we stopped for lunch then went over to the hospital for a NST (Non-Stress Test). This is where they place some monitors on your stomach to see baby’s heart beat and I think my contractions? I also had a button that I was supposed to push everytime I felt the baby move. I was checked to see if I was dilated. I was only at 1 cm. To have a […] - [Baby is Measuring Small](https://stubbornox.net/baby-is-measuring-small/): I had another ultrasound last week to check on the baby’s growth. He is still measuring small while all the other numbers are still good. Today I had my follow up appointment with my doctor and he said baby is now in the 10th percentile for size, down from the 15th. I will be having another ultrasound next week on the 16th followed by an appointment at the hospital. I believe I will be having a Non-Stress Test done and depending on the results of the ultrasound and other tests they may induce me that day. That means I could […] - [34 Weeks](https://stubbornox.net/34-weeks/): Yesterday I became 34 weeks pregnant. I had another ultrasound done. The ultrasound lady was pretty rough, pushing really hard on my body. The ultrasound pictures are getting harder to make out as I get further along in my pregnancy, which she said is normal. She took some measurements of the baby, checked the amount of amniotic fluid, and checked that the umbilical cord was still functioning well. Today I had a doctor appointment to go over the results of the ultrasound. He said things look good. There is plenty of fluid and nothing wrong with the umbilical cord. But […] - [6th Prenatal Appointment](https://stubbornox.net/6th-prenatal-appointment/): I had another quick prenatal appointment yesterday. He measured my belly which was measuring a couple weeks smaller than my actual 31 weeks. He also said that I’m hiding the baby which I thought was funny. He felt my stomach and said that he thinks the baby is still head down. I will be having a third ultrasound in a few weeks which will tell us if he actually is still head down or not. The doctor had a little trouble finding the heartbeat. It was on my left side today which I think means his belly has switched sides […] - [Baby Shower](https://stubbornox.net/baby-shower/): I had my baby shower on Sunday. It was just a small party with four guests, but that worked for me as I don’t like entertaining in the first place. I did a little decorating with balloons and a welcome sign on the door. Since no one has really been to our home before we started with a house tour followed by lunch. I ordered some pizza, made cupcakes with blue frosting, and had some chips set out. Following that we played some baby shower games. For the first game I had a baby bottle filled with soother candies and […] - [5th Prenatal Appointment](https://stubbornox.net/5th-prenatal-appointment/): On Thursday I had another prenatal doctor’s appointment. He went over the results of my ultrasound and the Gestational Diabetes Screening (GDS). Everything is still looking good. The baby was head down at the ultrasound. But I do worry that it may have changed since then. Either that day or the day after the baby did a lot of big movements and I swear he is in another position now. I think I get one more ultrasound later in the pregnancy and really hope that he is still head down. I also passed my GDS which was a relief. But […] - [Gestational Diabetes Screen (GDS)](https://stubbornox.net/gestational-diabetes-screen-gds/): Today I had to have my GDS. To prepare I was told I had to fast for three hours beforehand and no junk food. I usually have a bagel and orange juice for breakfast but I was worried about the amount of sugar in them. So instead I had an egg and cheese on an english muffin and some water. I also needed to have a urine sample taken, so I did that first. Then for the GDS you have to drink an orange sugar drink. Next you have to wait one hour before they take your blood. I was […] - [Second Ultrasound](https://stubbornox.net/second-ultrasound/): I just got home from my second ultrasound for this baby. To prepare, instead of drinking 4 cups I only needed to drink 2 cups. I thought that was so going to be so easy, but I couldn’t even finish the two cups. The baby kept moving around and I thought I would pee myself so I only had about 1.5 cups. I think it was still enough though. This ultrasound was very similar to the anatomy scan I had at 19 weeks. I’m now 28 weeks and I think they were just measuring everything to make sure he’s still […] - [Planning a Baby Shower](https://stubbornox.net/planning-a-baby-shower/): At first, I wasn’t sure if I was going to have a baby shower. You can’t really throw one for yourself, because it looks like you are just asking people for gifts. I started setting up an Amazon Baby Registry pretty much as soon as I found out I was pregnant. I didn’t plan on sharing it with anyone until we made our pregnancy announcement, but a family member was told about it and wanted to see it early which caused me stress. I felt like I was being rushed and I didn’t feel my list was ready for public […] - [4th Prenatal Appointment](https://stubbornox.net/4th-prenatal-appointment/): Today (October 12) I am 24 weeks pregnant. I had my first appointment with my new doctor today. He was a very nice doctor. He works as part of a team with the hospital I plan to give birth in. What that means is he may or may not be the doctor that actually delivers my baby. The appointment was pretty quick and straight forward. They took my blood pressure and weight. They didn’t take a urine sample which was the first time since I started my prenatal appointments. The doctor measured my uterus, listened to the baby’s heart beat […] - [Third Pre-Natal Appointment](https://stubbornox.net/third-pre-natal-appointment/): Today is September 14th and I just got home from my third prenatal appointment. My doctor told me that the ultrasound results showed that the baby is doing well. But it also indicated that I have a low-lying placenta. She said it could very likely move higher as I get bigger since I am still early in my pregnancy. If it stays low there is a risk of bleeding. Having a low-lying placenta also increases your chances of having a c-section. She has advised us not to have intercourse until my next appointment, which is on October 12. My boyfriend […] - [Anatomy Scan](https://stubbornox.net/anatomy-scan/): Today (September 7) we had our anatomy scan ultrasound. To prepare for the scan they ask you to drink 1 liter of water and finish drinking one hour prior to your appointment. It’s so hard to not pee your pants. I only drank three cups instead of the four based on my previous ultrasound experiences. Thankfully she said my bladder was nice and full. If I had to drink that extra cup I know I would not have made it. I had heard that some dads are not allowed in during the ultrasound until near the end so my boyfriend […] - [Second Prenatal Appointment](https://stubbornox.net/second-prenatal-appointment/): Today is August 20 and I am almost 17 weeks pregnant. I had my second prenatal appointment today which was pretty similar to the first one. I had the same experience with the toilet flushing on me during my urine test. This time I made sure I had to pee, but I am so bad at aiming my stream. I don’t know how other people do it but I seriously peed all over my hand and all over the cup. They took my weight and blood pressure again and we got to hear the heartbeat for the second time. It […] - [First Prenatal Appointment](https://stubbornox.net/first-prenatal-appointment/): Today is July 17, 2018 and I had my first prenatal appointment. I didn’t know what to expect. I knew that I was supposed to be able to hear the heartbeat but that’s about all I knew. According to the internet, I thought it was still be too early to hear as I am only about 12 weeks. As soon as I got there they had me do another urine test which I wasn’t really expecting. I didn’t see the instructions on the bathroom wall until I was done so hopefully I didn’t mess it up. The toilet was a […] - [Lab Tests](https://stubbornox.net/lab-tests/): I had some lab tests done on June 23, 2018 when I was 8 weeks pregnant. I needed to get 4 tubes of blood taken and fill two cups with urine. I don’t remember if I ever had blood taken before so I was a little nervous. After they took my blood I started to feel light headed. They had me drink some juice and lay down for a few minutes. They didn’t want me to faint while doing my urine test haha. I was nervous to do my urine test as well. It was a two stream test which […] - [Initial Appointment](https://stubbornox.net/initial-appointment/): Today is June 16, 2018. I had my first doctor’s appointment this morning and I wasn’t sure what to expect. It didn’t really consist of much. We just talked a little bit about genetic screening for Down Syndrome and Spina Bifida which are optional scans you can have done. And she gave me forms to take to get some lab tests done. I booked an appointment to have those done next weekend. I also booked an appointment for July 23 to have our first prenatal appointment where we should be able to hear the baby’s heartbeat. I am currently 7 […] - [I'm Pregnant](https://stubbornox.net/im-pregnant/): I know that I said to watch for my project reveal next week but I cannot wait. We made the news public today. Some of this post is probably going to be TMI, so for that I apologize. If you are interested in reading about my symptoms and experiences through my first ever pregnancy then keep reading. The following blog post was written on June 1, 2018. My period was due on Tuesday May 22. My cycle is usually right on so as soon as I was a couple days late I started getting pretty suspicious. That week I started […] - [Another Uneventful Year](https://stubbornox.net/another-uneventful-year/): This year has been another boring one. We had hoped to buy a house this year but then my boyfriend got laid off from his job in December. It’s been a rough year for him in particular. In the last 8 months he’s only had three job interviews. That can be pretty depressing as I’m sure you can imagine. He’s been spending most his time playing video games at home. Thankfully, he is starting a new job on Wednesday so we can start saving money again for a down payment on a house. If the universe is nice to us, […] - [Cost of Owning a Car](https://stubbornox.net/cost-of-owning-a-car/): I bought my first car in 2015. That will make it 3 years old this May. I wanted to see how much owning a car has cost me over the last few years. I have broken down the cost into their categories so I can really see where my money is going. We do have to keep in mind that my maintenance costs over the last three years have been lower than they will be from here on out because I had a $500 gift card as a bonus when purchasing the car. I have just used up the card […] - [2017 In Review: Part Four](https://stubbornox.net/2017-in-review-part-four/): September 2017 I drove my boyfriend’s truck for the second time. We went to visit my boyfriend’s parents at their new cottage in British Columbia, staying very close to an active wild fire. We had to be ready to leave at a moment’s notice. I started carrying Lego at my store and brought some home to build with the boyfriend. We saw the Northern Lights outside our door for the first time during one of our walks. It was only my second time ever seeing them in my life. October 2017 I parked too close to the concrete post in […] - [2017 In Review: Part Three](https://stubbornox.net/2017-in-review-part-three/): May 2017 I read the book What If by Rebecca Donovan. I painted a bird house. I had my first BBQ of the year. I went on two bike rides. One 15km and one 17km. I took a trip to Jasper National Park to celebrate my birthday. I drove myself to a new location and back without getting lost. I went out to dinner with some boss people from our head office. June 2017 I wore my hair in French Braids for the first time in public. I tried growing cucumbers and tomatoes for the first time (Cucumber plant has […] - [2017 In Review: Part Two](https://stubbornox.net/2017-in-review-part-two/): January 2017 I started exercising with the Wii Fit U after a year long break. I visited The Rec Room that had recently opened up in Edmonton with my boyfriend and his two friends. I built a version of my Grandparent’s house in the Sims 4. I read the book The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins. I almost slid my car into a snow bank for the first time. This taught me to slow down on turns when driving in snow. February 2017 I started a new 10-minute workout that I found on my Facebook wall. I went […] - [2017 In Review: Part One](https://stubbornox.net/2017-in-review-part-one/): If I was to sum up 2017 in one word, that would be “lazy”. Honestly I feel like I sat on my butt watching YouTube videos and playing video games the entire year. I also stopped going out to all the local events, which used to be something I loved to do. I found it difficult to drag my boyfriend out either because he didn’t want to go, or I wasn’t interested in leaving the house. It’s sad because one of the things I really loved about my new partner was that he didn’t complain when I said I wanted […] - [Bullet Journals](https://stubbornox.net/bullet-journals/): For the last few months I’ve been trying to figure out how to get myself organized and motivated to do anything other than sit on my butt playing computer games and watching shows. I’ve heard the buzz word “Bullet Journaling” floating around but didn’t think too much about it. I started creating a journal that was going to work for me and went online to look for an idea for a health journal or tracker. I wanted to see how often I get sick and what symptoms I get most often. I also wanted to track how often I exercise […] - [Security and Awards](https://stubbornox.net/security-and-awards/): I swear I wasn’t avoiding you guys on purpose. For those of you who follow me on Twitter, you may have seen a post about locking myself out of WordPress. That was exactly one month ago today. I had such tight security that after one wrong password you couldn’t try again for for multiple days. After the week or so that I had to wait, I tried again and got my second lock out. I keep doing this pretty much every week. Well, today I finally got back into my account! So here I am haha. Liebster Award Since that […] - [Moving Back to NS](https://stubbornox.net/moving-back-to-ns/): I think I always kind of assumed that I would one day move back home to Nova Scotia (NS). That’s where I spent the first 27 years of my life. That is where my heart is. That is where my family are. But lately I’m not so sure. Last year I ordered free travel guides for most provinces in Canada and started planning out a trip across Canada. I was feeling particularly homesick and unhappy with where I was in life. I had always wanted to do a camping trip across the country and decided to start planning. I still […] - [Happy #Canada150](https://stubbornox.net/happy-canada150/): Yesterday was Canada Day and I dragged the boyfriend downtown to explore. We started out at Winston Churchill Square to check out The Works Art and Design Festival. Honestly, I didn’t really see much worth looking at. But maybe I just need someone to give me a tour. Next we walked over to the City Market Downtown. I don’t know why I like going to the Farmers’ Market because I never buy anything due to everything costing so much. But it’s still fun to look around. I heard that there were things going on in City Hall so we went […] - [Camping in Waterton](https://stubbornox.net/camping-in-waterton/): I just got back from Camping in Waterton Lakes National Park. It’s about as far South as you can go in Alberta. From our home in Edmonton it took about 5-6 hours to drive there. Because I wanted to bring our bicycles with us, we took my boyfriend’s truck instead of my car. He doesn’t do well at staying awake during long trips and because it was my idea to go there, I was in charge of most of the driving. It was my first time driving the truck and it went fairly well. But I must say I much […] - [I Quit](https://stubbornox.net/i-quit/): I decided to stop documenting my Sims story for two reasons. The first being that you didn’t really seem that interested in following along. The second being that I technically failed the Challenge. In the 4th generation, the parents were pretty old when they started having children. When the parent’s died, all three children were too young to care for themselves and they were taken away. I think that is the first time I’ve ever seen The Sims say “Game Over”. I have kept playing however. When the Heir died, one of his brothers was still alive so I switched […] - [A Sims 4 Story: Generation Two](https://stubbornox.net/a-sims-4-story-generation-two/): To start from the beginning with Generation One click here. New Heir: Charlie Zest. Aspiration: Creativity (Musical Genius). Traits: Goofball, Mean, Active, Gregarious, Muser, Happy Toddler Starting Funds: $21,294 Once Charlie became a Young Adult it was time for him to move out and start a life of his own. He bought the Asphalt Abodes lot for $2000 and was left with $1300 after building his home. He decided it was time for a makeover to look more grownup and joined the Politician career. Shortly after moving in he invited his two sisters and mom over and made them a […] - [A Sims 4 Story: Picking a Heir](https://stubbornox.net/a-sims-4-story-picking-a-heir/): This is part three of Ashlee Zest’s journey throughout my Sims 4 Challenge. You can start from the beginning or click on the tags at the bottom of the post to pick up where you left off. Once Bronwyn and Charlie were in school, we hired a nanny instead of sending Danielle to daycare. The kids really loved their nanny and stayed friends with her throughout their adult years as well (although I don’t know how she is still alive!). While all three children were pretty good kids, there were lots of calls from the principal because they never did […] - [A Sims 4 Story: Starting a Family](https://stubbornox.net/a-sims-4-story-starting-a-family/): Read the first chapter of my Sims story starting Ashlee (Melton) Zest here. Shortly after marriage, Ashlee and Johnny started trying for a baby. After a failed attempt, they found out they were pregnant with their first child named Bronwyn Zest. Ashlee continued courting Johnny to try and fill her Aspiration (which due to a Sim bug was unable to fulfill) and also climbed up the ranks in her career to make sure her heir would have enough to live when they moved out in the future. After Bronwyn was born, Ashlee and Johnny had another failed attempt at conceiving […] - [New Car Problem](https://stubbornox.net/new-car-problem/): Last week my car started doing something it has never done before. Three days in a row when I was leaving work, the inside windows have had frost on them. I’ve been trying to figure out what was happening. It seemed strange that it was happening now when it’s warmer than the past few months, and I went through a whole winter without a problem last year. The first thing I thought was maybe I got a new rock chip that was letting water in. I looked all over the front window and couldn’t find anything. Then I thought maybe […] - [A Sims 4 Story: The Courtship](https://stubbornox.net/a-sims-4-story-the-courtship/): I have started playing the Sims 4 Challenge which you can read about here. My founding Sim’s name is Ashlee Melton. She is a young adult with a Love Aspiration looking to find her Soulmate. Her traits are Clumsy, Goofball, and Noncommittal. Because of her aspiration, she is also Alluring. Ashlee moved into one of the smallest lots in Newcrest which she bought for $1500 named Oak Alcove. After building her modest home she was left with $1883. Ashlee was given a job as an Entertainer and started learning to play the violin. She also started planting wild plants found […] - [Sims 4 Challenge](https://stubbornox.net/sims-4-challenge/): I have been playing a lot of the Sims 4 lately. One might even say, too much. Last night I was reading through some of the Challenges that are posted online and decided to make my own. It is largely based off other challenges, mixing them together and adding some of my own elements. You can read through the Challenge description here. I started playing through the challenge myself and plan on adding blog posts to go along with my story. Playing through the challenge allows me to modify the challenge to make it more interesting. Let me know if […] - [New Year, New You](https://stubbornox.net/new-year-new-you/): Today my Wii Fit welcomed me back after a 362 day break between workouts. Needless to say, I have gotten a little out of shape over the last year. While I haven’t gained (or lost) any weight, I definitely have gotten a little fluffier. During my workout today I noticed a couple things I did not like. During a short run I noticed my bum was jiggling up and down which was very uncomfortable haha. The second thing that bothered me was how the lunges I did nearly killed me. After doing 20 lunges per leg I had to sit […] - [Clothes for Donation](https://stubbornox.net/clothes-for-donation/): Every year I try to go through my closet and weed out the clothes that I no longer wear. Last year I heard a great idea which I am doing for the second year in a row. They said to turn all of your hangers around so they are facing the opposite way. As as you wear your clothes throughout the year, you put them back the right way. That way you can see what clothes you actually wear. At the end of the year it will be easy to see what clothes you wore and which ones you haven’t. […] - [New Piercing: Day One](https://stubbornox.net/new-piercing-day-one/): I got my second holes pierced in my ears today. It’s probably been 15 to 20 years since my last piercing and I was scared that it was going to hurt. I can’t really remember anything about the first time I had my ears done. Going into it I was pretty nervous this morning. As I was filling in the waiver form, I thought about leaving multiple times. But I went through with it. The piercing didnt hurt at all. The girl explained everything she was doing and what I should expect. Like evryone says, it just felt like a […] - [Today was a Rough One](https://stubbornox.net/today-was-a-rough-one/): Despite this week being a four day workweek, it felt super long, with today being the worst. I was cranky most of the morning and felt like the smallest thing was going to make me start crying. Thankfully my coworker could sense my mood and was able to make the afternoon go smoother. The main thing that had set me off was a meeting my manager set up at the end of the day yesterday for someone to come look at our money machines today, while he had the day off. He didn’t leave me any notes about what the […] - [Chill Weekend](https://stubbornox.net/chill-weekend/): We had a pretty low-key weekend here. Saturday I spent all morning in bed which I haven’t done in probably a few years. I used to do that at my boyfriend’s house all the time watching TV but not since we moved in together. I miss having cable television so you could just flip to random shows. Sunday was my boyfriend’s birthday. I spent some time in the morning driving around picking up a few last minute presents and his cake. Again we didn’t really do a whole lot throughout the day. In the evening we went out to a […] - [Eczema is Back](https://stubbornox.net/eczema-is-back/): I grew up dealing with eczema when I lived in Nova Scotia. I normally have it on the hands but sometimes also on my wrists and elbows. When I moved to Alberta it went away on it’s own pretty soon after getting here. But this year it’s back. I think one of my big triggers is the weather. Nova Scotia (NS) is very humid and we get rain quite often. But that’s not usually the case in Alberta (AB). However, this year its been raining most days from June until now. Another trigger is stress which I have been feeling […] - [Where Did The Summer Go?](https://stubbornox.net/where-did-the-summer-go/): Welcome to September. I really don’t know where the summer went. It’s been a busy month at work getting all the teachers ready to go back to school but we’re starting to see things slow down now. This weekend is my boyfriend’s birthday and I can’t believe I havn’t bought him anything yet! That’s what I will be doing today. Thankfully I have some gift ideas. Besides birthday gifts, there are a few other things I plan on looking for while I’m out. But while I want to go out and buy all the things, at the same time, I […] - [Covergirl TruBlend](https://stubbornox.net/covergirl-trublend/): I got to try out some foundation for free thanks to BzzAgent.com Before deciding which foundation to test out, they had a link to go to which helped you find the perfect one for your skin. I always have trouble deciding which color was going to work best for me, but the Embrace Your Face tool told me to get the TruBlend foundation. I think I ended up picking the same color I’ve used in the past, but it matched perfectly with my skin. One squirt is more than enough to cover your entire face. It covered up the red […] - [Canada Day Camping Trip](https://stubbornox.net/canada-day-camping-trip/): We went camping this weekend for the long weekend. It was the first time I used my car for a camping trip and it was packed to the brim. For the total trip we went about 800km which is the most I’ve driven at one time. I drove about 3 hours at a time each day. We saw a lot of wildlife on our trip. There was a family of skunks walking along the road. They were so cute! It was a mom and three or four babies. I tried to get a picture and video of them but it […] - [New Direction](https://stubbornox.net/new-direction/): So I changed my mind again about Drag Him Out. I spent most of the day yesterday getting it back up and running, trying out different layouts and plugins. I decided I will list the upcoming and past events on that website, but blog about my experiences here on Stubborn Ox. That is at least until I see how much the domain renewal is going to cost me. I also spent part of the day getting the Nerd Listings moved to the new host and updated. I think I am now fully moved into my new host home. All that […] - [Two Become One](https://stubbornox.net/two-become-one/): Since I decided to no longer update my website Drag Him Out and will ultimately be closing the site this summer, I have merged my blog posts from that site into this site. That is where I had been posting about the different events I’ve attended over the last couple years. If you wish to read about what I have been up to, I think you should be able to find most, if not all of the posts, but clicking on the Alberta tag. Today I spent most of my time fixing broken pictures and links in my blog posts […] - [Stolen License Plate](https://stubbornox.net/stolen-license-plate/): Last night as I was leaving work, I noticed there was no license plate on my car.  Unfortunately, I don’t remember when I last checked my license plate so it could have been missing for a few days.  I do try to take a look at my car often to see if there are any dents or scratches but I can’t say for certain when I last checked. I drove the 20 minute drive home angry and also nervous that a cop might pull me over because it’s illegal to drive without a license plate. But I made it home […] - [Moving Hosts](https://stubbornox.net/moving-hosts/): If you noticed my website kept going down, it’s because I was moving hosts. I am trying out a free hosting website in hopes of cancelling my paid hosting package. I can no longer afford to pay for hosting since I no longer am making any money from ads. I have also been shopping around for less expensive domain providers and will be switching them to a new company when they expire. Hopefully I have everything switched over and working, but if you do find any problems, please let me know! - [L'Oreal Paris Hydra-Total 5 Routine](https://stubbornox.net/loreal-paris-hydra-total-5-routine/): A photo posted by Deanna (@stubbornox) on Jan 24, 2016 at 8:12pm PST I received these three products for free thanks to influenster.com. Before starting this system but skin was very dry and flaky. But I have to say, these really worked for me. I have sensitive skin so I’m always nervous about trying something new. In the past I’ve had products that made my skin even more dry. There have been products that caused my eczema to flare up making it look like I’ve been crying. But the Hydra-Total 5 system has been great. You start by applying the […] - [Flying Canoe Volant](https://stubbornox.net/flying-canoe-volant/): Last night I went to the Flying Canoe festival for the first time and had a magical time walking around looking at the sights and sounds. Their website says the festival is “[i]nspired by the legend of The Flying Canoe and French Canadian, First Nations and Métis traditions[. T]his event celebrates our beautiful Mill Creek Ravine and the newly-established French Quarter.” We only walked through the Mill Creek Ravine portion of the festival so next time we go maybe we’ll check out the other areas that are set up. The weather was beautiful which made it an even better experience. […] - [Target Audience](https://stubbornox.net/target-audience/): So I totally meant to blog every day of my two week vacation. But after Christmas all I really did was spend 12 hours a day playing video games. I got myself addicted to Banished again. I finally learned how to grow my population. Then from there I started working on getting all the different awards. I haven’t gotten them all yet but I’m taking a break now that I’m back at work. That’s not really what I came here to blog about though. I wanted to talk about my online presence. I was thinking tonight about who I post […] - [Christmas Vacation: Day Three](https://stubbornox.net/christmas-vacation-day-three/): I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas day! Today I was woken up by my boyfriend around 7:30am. We got up and opened our gifts. One of the gifts I got for the boyfriend was a waffle maker so we tried it out for breakfast. After breakfast, we watched the movie Jack Frost. I talked to my family on the phone and on Skype after the movie. For most of the rest of the day I played Yoshi’s Woolly World, which was one of my gifts. I finished off the day with catching up on some youtube videos. - [Christmas Vacation: Day Two](https://stubbornox.net/christmas-vacation-day-two/): Well today wasn’t as productive as yesterday but that’s alright. In the morning we got to go skating for the first time since I moved to Alberta. It was my boyfriend’s first time in about 30 years. We both had fun and no one fell down so I call that a success. I watched a lot of youtube today while coloring in my coloring book. In the evening we ordered Chinese food and watched The Good Dinosaur. I also watched The Polar Express before going to bed. - [Christmas Vacation: Day One](https://stubbornox.net/christmas-vacation-day-one/): Today was my first day off from work. I kept myself pretty busy today. In the morning I got myself cleaned up with a shower. I cleaned up the kitchen and did my laundry. The boyfriend and I went out to buy him some skates so we can actually go skating this year. They opened up a new skate trail a couple days ago that I’m really excited to visit. After getting lunch at IHOP we got some groceries for the next few days then came back home. After putting away the groceries I watched an episode of Married at […] - [Christmas Tree](https://stubbornox.net/christmas-tree/): Watching vloggers on Youtube makes me want to vlog as well. However, I’m pretty shy and would probably never have the courage to actually do it. Growing up, my dad would make home videos. Basically just filming what’s happening around him. I have videos of my mom taking care of and playing with my brother and I at home. There are videos of family spending time together at my grandparents house and while camping. He would record every Christmas watching us open presents (we were never allowed to start until the camera was ready!). These are the kinds of videos […] - [Buffalo Popcorn Chicken with Chili Roast Potatoes](https://stubbornox.net/buffalo-popcorn-chicken-with-chili-roast-potatoes/): Details: These are two recipes that I put together to make one meal. The potato recipe comes from the book “365 Dish a Day: A recipe for each of the 365 days in a year” and the chicken recipe I found in my recipe box so I’m not sure where it came from. Most likely from the internet somewhere. I forgot to take pictures of them after they were ready to go, but here are a couple pictures of them while they were cooking. Ingredients: Potatoes 1 lb. 2 oz. small new potatoes, scrubbed 2/3 cup veg. oil (I used […] - [Cannelloni with Ham and Ricotta](https://stubbornox.net/cannelloni-with-ham-and-ricotta/): Details: This was the first time I’ve ever made Cannelloni before. I found this recipe in the book “365 Dish a Day: A recipe for each of the 365 days in a year” and it sounded easy enough. The noodles I bought said they were oven ready and did not need to be boiled, so I skipped that step. Because the noodles were still hard, when I poured the sauce over them I heard some of them crack which resulted in some of the noodles being split open once they cooked. But they still tasted good so it wasn’t a […] - [Santa's Parade of Lights](https://stubbornox.net/santas-parade-of-lights/): I was so excited when I heard that Edmonton was having a parade of lights this year. It was one of my favorite parades every year in Halifax, and I was looking forward to seeing what Edmonton was going to do with it. While I did enjoy the floats that were entered, I found the parade was way too short. There was also not enough music. I think if they are able to get more floats entered next year and throw in a couple of instrumental bands, it would be even better! [pe2-gallery album=”http://picasaweb.google.com/data/feed/base/user/103388054275427669580/albumid/6220756866281524689?alt=rss&hl=en_US&kind=photo” ] - [Christmas Card Exchange](https://stubbornox.net/christmas-card-exchange/): I kept going back and forth about whether I was going to send out cards this year to more than just my immediate family. But tonight as I was getting my cards out for my boyfriend to use, I found these really cute stickers that I bought to put on my cards this year and decided I would love to have more people to send them to. If you are interested in exchanging Christmas cards with me this year, send me either your email address so I can contact you, or you can contact me with your address at admin[@]stubbornox.net […] - [Crispy Coated Chicken and Sweet Potato Wedges](https://stubbornox.net/crispy-coated-chicken-and-sweet-potato-wedges/): Details: This is a recipe that I have in one of my recipe books titled “365 Dish a Day: A recipe for each of the 365 days in a year”. I made this recipe once in Halifax, possibly before I ever moved out of my parent’s house. I usually put check marks beside the recipes that turned out well, which this one had, so I decided to try it again. The recipe says to cook the chicken 3-4 minutes per side, but that was not nearly long enough. I think I cooked them for closer to 10 minutes per side; […] - [Brownie in a Mug](https://stubbornox.net/brownie-in-a-mug/): Details: About a month or so ago I made a “cake in a mug” recipe and was disappointed with the taste. Today I decided I would do a search online for a “brownie in a mug” recipe and found this one at food.com. I didn’t really measure anything and hoped for the best. It was much tastier than my previous attempt. Ingredients: 2 tablespoons butter, melted 2 tablespoons water 1⁄4 teaspoon vanilla extract 1 dash salt 4 tablespoons white sugar 2 tablespoons cocoa powder 4 tablespoons all-purpose flour Directions: In a coffee mug, add water, butter, vanilla and salt. Stir […] - [Productive Day](https://stubbornox.net/productive-day/): Today I was pretty productive both online and offline. On this website I added a new plugin and changed some other settings to hopefully stop the spam comments I’ve been getting over the last year or so, while keeping it easy for real people to comment. There is now a time limit before you can post, but if you’re actually reading the post you shouldn’t even notice it. On my event blog I updated the list of upcoming events. I tried to find a way to turn my tweets and Facebook posts into blog posts but didn’t find any plugins […] - [Website Merge](https://stubbornox.net/website-merge/): I’m torn on what to do with my websites. I basically have two blogs; one for personsl use, and one to talk about events around my city. Neither of these sites get updated regularly. Websites cost a lot of money as well. I used to make money from my websites but you dont get ads posted when you dont have many people visiting or interacting. And you dont get visitors when you dont update and return comments. As my paypal fund starts to dry up, my websites will stop being self sufficient and are making me think whether I want […] - [Covergirl Lash Blast Mascara](https://stubbornox.net/covergirl-lash-blast-mascara/): I recently got to try out the Covergirl Full Lash Bloom mascara thanks to BzzAgent.com. I actually really liked it. It made my lashes spread out like no other product I’ve tried in the past (see below for a before and after shot). And unlike other mascaras, it didn’t make my lashes feel stiff. I hate products that make my lashes stiff because they break easily or get pulled out (I don’t normally wash my eye makeup off). This is a product I would recommend and I am very interested in trying out the other new products in the Lash […] - [Slept In](https://stubbornox.net/slept-in/): It’s been a busy few weeks with closing a store and lots of sales starting thanks to the holidays. I’ve been working long hours trying to get the store organized and I guess it’s taking a toll on me. Last night my brain was not working. I kept forgetting things when I was closing up shop. Thankfully I wasn’t closing alone and my coworker was catching most of my mistakes. I am a really light sleeper so I usually cannot sleep in the same room as my snoring boyfriend. But we keep trying to see if I can get over […] - [You Should be in School](https://stubbornox.net/you-should-be-in-school/): I hear that phrase quite often while working in a retail store. Since I look younger than I actually am people think I should still be in school. And that makes me feel bad. It makes me feel like they view me as if I’m wasting my life working in a store like that. And then I question whether that’s the truth or not. I then tell them that I did infact go to school. I did 13 years in the public system, then another six years getting my teaching degree. After which time I realized that I didn’t like […] - [Reorganizing a Store](https://stubbornox.net/reorganizing-a-store/): I can’t wait until we are all moved into the new store location. When I get over there I get to reorganize evetything, which I love to do. I like making things more efficient. I want there to be a good flow for things. The first two areas that I’m going to work on are the cash area, and the back room. I was over there one day this summer to cover a break for my manager, and the cash area was so disorganized I couldn’t find anything that I was looking for. I would not be able to work […] - [House Hunting](https://stubbornox.net/house-hunting/): My boyfriend has decided that he wants to stop paying rent, and instead start paying a morgage. We’ve gone out a couple times to look at houses so far and have only found one that we’ve both really liked. Unfortunately someone else out bid us on it so we are back to the drawing board. With the amount of money we can afford, we’re finding most of the houses are smaller than we want. For me, it’s all about the layout. Two houses can be the same size, but the layout can make one house feel a lot bigger. If […] - [Moving Stores](https://stubbornox.net/moving-stores/): I usually try not to talk about work on the blog. But when you spend most of your time there it doesn’t really leave much to talk about. Over the last year or so the company has been trying to decide if we should keep the two stores in Edmonton open or consolidate them into one. A decision was finally made and we are moving into one location. The decision was made this summer and the time to start packing is finally here. I’ve been throwing a lot of stuff out to get ready for the move. We’ve been packing […] - [Secret Clear Gel](https://stubbornox.net/secret-clear-gel/): Thanks to BzzAgent I was given the opportunity to try out the Secret Clear Gel deodorant. I’m not normally a gel deodorant kind of person (I generally use an invisible solid). The first thing I noticed about the product was that it smelled nice. But there were things that I didn’t like about the gel deodorant. I don’t like the way it feels when you put it on. It feels wet and I worry that it is going to get my shirt wet. I also found that it didn’t keep me dry throughout the day like my normal deodorant does. […] ## Pages - [Online Hangouts](https://stubbornox.net/online-hangouts/): Here are a few places to find me online: Steam: StubbornOXnet I enjoy playing simulation games and city building games.
