Mountain Trip

Mountain Trip

We had a great trip through the Rocky Mountains last weekend. My boyfriend was disappointed because a lot of the mountains were hidden due to clouds and snow, but since I didn’t know what I was missing, I had a wonderful time . We left Edmonton at 8am and arrived at the Whistlers Inn in Jasper around lunch time. Along the way we saw some wildlife including Big Horned Sheep and Elk, both of which I had never seen before. Check in at the hotel wasn’t until 3pm so we went to Earls (for the first time) to eat...

September in Pictures

The beginning of September saw my move to Alberta. I had a beautiful day for flying and was even able to see Canada’s Wonderland and the CN Tower from the airplane! When I arrived in Edmonton I saw my first magpie and a lot of Canada Geese. As I mentioned before, I spent a couple days exploring West Edmonton Mall. There was even a skate park in the bottom of the West 49 store! We ended the month off exploring a couple of local destinations during Free Admission Day. To see more pictures click here.

Clam Harbour Sandcastle Competition 2011

My favorite beach in Nova Scotia is Clam Harbour Beach and every year they have a sandcastle competition. I don’t get to go very often because it’s about a 2 hour drive away from my home but I was able to talk my family into taking me there this year. Here are some pictures from the competition.

Peggy’s Cove

Peggy’s Cove

On Monday we were experiencing the tail end of Hurricane Irene here in Nova Scotia. What do Nova Scotians do when it’s windy out? Head out to Peggy’s Cove to look at the waves. Peggy’s Cove is probably the biggest tourist attraction we have here in Nova Scotia, and if you ever come to visit you should really check it out. I really shows the power of the Atlantic Ocean. The landscape here is so different from the rest of Nova Scotia and the waves can get pretty huge. One thing to remember if you do visit, make sure...

Fall 2011 TV Shows

August 30, 2011

I have started seeing previews for some new shows coming out soon that look interesting. Because of this I decided to search online and see what other new shows are coming our way. Here is a list of some of the shows I am excited for: Up All Night Starts September 14th Trailer I’m mostly interested in this show because it has Christina Applegate in it. I enjoyed her in Samantha Who? and think she will do a good job in this show as well. The show is about a couple who are trying to balance their home lives...

It Sucks Being Long Distance

August 28, 2011

It sucks that I can’t talk to my boyfriend without having long distance charges. We started out using Skype but it seems like the microphone on my computer doesn’t work very well. You can barely hear me. And anytime I plug in an external microphone my computer doesn’t detect it. I don’t know if my jack is broken or what. So instead of being able to talk, we’ve only been able to type which just isn’t the same. It makes me mad because he gets to talk to his family via voice while I’m deprived. I don’t think he...

Buskers 2011

August 20, 2011

I went to check out the Buskers a couple of times this year. There were some acts that I saw before so I decided to skip those ones and just watch some that were new to me. Here is a video of my favorite act this year. He was a mime. The performer is the man in the shorts with the big gloves, the rest of the people were volunteers. One of the volunteers was making the sound effects for the boxing match.

Canada Day

Canada Day was on July 1st. It was a beautiful day. One of the hottest we’ve had all summer. I started my day off with watching the Tattoo Parade which I try to do every year. After lunch I went out to the commons to enjoy some activities with my nephews. Unfortunately my oldest nephew fell and hit his head pretty hard and didn’t want to do much afterwards. The one thing he did want to do was go on the bouncy castle but the line was huge so he didn’t even get to do that. I felt bad...

June in Pictures

I planted a seed from an apple. It has been growing pretty good. It came up really fast too! I always dreamed of having an apple tree in my yard and being able to eat the apples. But that will have to wait until I have a yard to plant it in. So for now I will just dream. We did a lot of walking around Halifax since the weather was so nice. I like to act like a tourist sometimes and take pictures of my beautiful city. We visited Public Gardens as well as the Old Burying Ground....

Blogging Used to be Easy

June 8, 2011

Blogging was easy when I didn’t live with my boyfriend. I would be able to blog whenever I wanted to. My boyfriend doesn’t like it when I’m on the computer so out of respect for him I try to limit myself. If I was living alone I could blog about TV shows right after I watched them. I could talk about my feelings at the exact moment that I was feeling them. Now, I talk to him about everything first and by the time I get around to blogging about it, it’s old news. Anyway, this post will contain...

May in Pictures

Let me start off by saying sorry for not posting last month. I was either busy doing other stuff or just had nothing to say. As for the month of May, it involved a lot of plants. I bought a strawberry plant for my boyfriend, an aloe plant for myself, and a space plant. They were all started using seeds. I also planted an apple tree later because I’ve always wanted an apple tree. So far only the strawberry plant and the aloe plant has started sprouting. Hopefully the other ones will grow too. May was also the month...

Chili and Rice

This was my first time making Chili. I looked for one that didn’t take hours to make. This one was very easy and is very fast. I was impressed with it. And I liked the taste. I think my boyfriend would have liked more flavor though. I got this recipe from AllRecipes. Ingredients 3/4 pound ground beef (85% lean) 1 medium onion, chopped 1 tablespoon chili powder 1 (10.75 ounce) can Campbell’s® Healthy Request® Condensed Tomato Soup 1/4 cup water 1 teaspoon vinegar 1 (15 ounce) can kidney beans, rinsed and drained 4 cups hot cooked regular long-grain white...

Cheesy Quesadillas

Cheesy Quesadillas

We had Quesadillas before so the main part of this recipe was making the Avocado and Corn Salsa. This post will actually be two recipes which I got from the Food Network. First we made the Salsa. I never had Avocados before so I was a little nervous about trying it and doesn’t really look that appetizing, but it wasn’t bad. My boyfriend loved it. While it isn’t something I really would crave, it didn’t taste bad. Just different. Ingredients 1 cup frozen corn (we used canned corn) 1 avocado, pit removed and flesh chopped 1 small red onion,...

March in Pictures

This month I didn’t take a whole lot of pictures. There wasn’t really much going on. At the beginning of the month there was a sale on at Staples and my boyfriend bought a projector which was something that he had been talking about wanting for a while. I decided to try it out by playing the Sims 3 haha. It was a little too big for it to be any fun but the projector is great for watching TV! We started trying out some new recipes this month which I will post for you to try out yourself....

Dove Ultimate Visiblysmooth

March 21, 2011

I am currently trying out one of Dove’s deodorants for the website BzzAgent. I used it once in the past but I thought I would try it again since it was free and all . The deodorant I was trying out is supposed to make your armpits smoother and the hair less visable. They sent me two different scents, one for me and one for my friend. I found that both of them were pretty strongly scented. As a scent sensitive person I wouldn’t personally choose to buy this product again. I kept the Nature Fresh scent and gave...

February in Pictures

February included lots of snow which resulted in a bunch of days off from work. The Canada Winter Games took place this month and I was able to go watch some of the Speed Skating competitions. The Museum of Natural History also has a T-rex replica on display so we went to check that out and look at the regular exhibts too. My boyfriend was kind enough to give me some beautiful flowers for Valentine’s Day, which are surprisingly still alive. As part of the Canada Games they also held free concerts almost every night just down the road...

Music Monday: Alan Jackson

January 10, 2011

Music Style: Country Release Year: 1992 Artist: Alan Jackson Song: Chattahooche During the summer to prepare for the country concert that I attended I started listening to country music. It was the first time I really got into country music since I was in elementary school. The reason I like this song is because it has a great beat. I had no idea what a Chattahooche was until I looked it up, but now that I do now it makes sense when listening to the words. According to Wipkipedia, “The Chattahoochee River is a river flowing through or along...

So Far So Good

So Far So Good

How is the New Year treating you so far? For me it’s been good. On New Years eve we threw a party at the apartment. Counting my boyfriend and myself we had 13 people in here which we didn’t think was possible. The next morning was a bit rough but once I got the sickness out of the way we spent a few hours playing the New Super Mario Bros. for the Wii with a couple that spent the night. The next day I was hoping to go skating on the Canada Games Oval but unfortunately my boyfriend badly...

Shortbread Cookies

A few people were asking for the recipe for the Shortbread cookies that I talked about on my last blog post. When I made them I took pictures along the way because I thought about adding the recipe on my website. So here you go! I got the recipe from AllRecipes.com and I cut the recipe in half after reading some of the comments below the recipe. I also used margarine instead of butter. Ingredients 1 cup butter, softened 1/2 cup white sugar 1 tsp vanilla extract 2 cup flour Directions 1. Preheat oven to 350F. 2. Cream butter...

Christmas is Coming

Christmas is Coming

You can really tell that Christmas is coming. Trees and Christmas lights have started popping up everywhere. Trees are outside of the grocery store, in the lobby of my apartment building, in Santa’s wordshop at the mall, and I even saw a few of them at the casino last night. I recently made some shortbread cookies in the shape of candycanes. It was my first time making them. I wanted to test it out because I plan to make some more to give away as Christmas gifts, except this time I will put some icing on them. Last weekend...

Canstruction

Canstruction is an event that is held every year by Feed Nova Scotia. Teams of people build structures using cans of food. It’s pretty neat to see the way they use different colored cans to make colorful structures. When the event is over, the cans of food that was used to make the structures are given to food banks and meal programs throughout the province. Here are some pictures of my favorite ones from this year.
