December in Pictures

In December I ran around the city trying to find the indoor Santa Claus parade. I managed to find it near the end of the parade but that was okay. It wasn’t as exciting as I thought it was going to be. I learned that my hair actually can be curled! Ever since prom I was convinced that my hair would never be able to be curly because they tried so hard to curl it for prom and it just did not work. But then one day before Christmas as I was shopping this girl at a stand selling...

Adventures So Far

October 2, 2011

I arrived in Alberta on Saturday September 10th. I was greeted at the airport by my boyfriend holding some flowers (he’s so cute). I was also with my mother who came up with me to see her sister who is in the hospital with a terminal illness. We dropped my mom off at her hotel and drove back to Winston’s friend’s house where we would be staying until our stuff arrived on the moving truck. Sunday we took a trip out to see the West Edmonton Mall which is the biggest mall in North America. It has a water...

Buskers 2011

August 20, 2011

I went to check out the Buskers a couple of times this year. There were some acts that I saw before so I decided to skip those ones and just watch some that were new to me. Here is a video of my favorite act this year. He was a mime. The performer is the man in the shorts with the big gloves, the rest of the people were volunteers. One of the volunteers was making the sound effects for the boxing match.

July in Pictures

July was a busy month, as it usually is. July in Canada starts off with Canada Day which was beautiful again this year. Thanks to the nice weather we spent a lot of time walking around the city. I got to spend some time with my family at the summer home for a weekend which included boat rides, fishing, a birthday party and the beach. We discovered new treasures on the Halifax waterfront including a local celebrity and a dessert restaurant. And we ended the month off with a camping trip to celebrate our 8th anniversary as a couple....

Canada Day

Canada Day

Canada Day was on July 1st. It was a beautiful day. One of the hottest we’ve had all summer. I started my day off with watching the Tattoo Parade which I try to do every year. After lunch I went out to the commons to enjoy some activities with my nephews. Unfortunately my oldest nephew fell and hit his head pretty hard and didn’t want to do much afterwards. The one thing he did want to do was go on the bouncy castle but the line was huge so he didn’t even get to do that. I felt bad...

Parade of Lights

Parade of Lights

The day started off like a perfect day for a holiday parade. We had our first bit of flurries (that I saw) which I found fitting for Christmas. When we headed out for the parade it didn’t feel that cold out which I was excited about because I hate being cold. We left early because we had planned on going to Dairy Queen to get some blizzards since I had a coupon, but once we got there we found out it was closed. So we ended up getting to the parade earlier than we had planned, but we found...

It’s Been a Busy Two Weeks

November 20, 2010

I’ve been meaning to blog since my last post but I’ve only been off for a few days out of the last two weeks. Christmas is slowly creeping up on us and since I work in a toy store I’ve been getting a lot of hours. The bad part about that is I haven’t been available to teach. They called me one day but I had to tell them I wasn’t available. In other news, I saw my first flurries today! They lasted about 10 minutes and didn’t amount to anything, but it was exciting nonetheless. Tonight is also...

Nocturne Update

Nocturne Update

As I had mentioned, Halifax had it’s Nocturne festival on Saturday. We were lucky enough to have it not rain on us which was wonderful. The first event we went to was called Huffing and Puffing. We were actually trying to get to the Circus Spectacular which I talked a little bit about in my last post. We only ended up at the Huffing and Puffing one because they were in the same building. What it was, was a video of a guy blowing up a balloon. He blows it up until it breaks in his face. And then...

Nocturne

October 15, 2010

Tomorrow is the third annual Nocturne: Art at Night event. I went to it last year and found it pretty interesting. Basically what it is is a bunch of artists around the city showing off their artwork. There are always so many venues set up around Halifax and Dartmouth that there is no way you would be able to see all of them. And it’s not just art like paintings and stuff. It’s art of all kinds. One that I really want to see is a circus show with “unicyclists…illuminated dancing diabolos, the twirling devil sticks and tightrope artists…aerialists,...

Fashion and Design Festival

Fashion and Design Festival

Last week I was looking around on Twitter and noticed that someone posted a link about an outdoor fashion show. I thought it looked cool and decided to check it out. It turned out that it was the first annual Fashion and Design Festival and Halifax was their first stop. It was a little disorganized but I forgave them because it was their first show. On the website they said the show was going to start at 7pm on Barrington St. but when we arrived we didn’t see anything happening. My brother looked around and noticed that there was...

Buskers and Iceland

Buskers and Iceland

Every year in Halifax there is a festival called the Busker Festival. I try to make it down at least once every year and this year was not an exception. They had a lot more going on this year then I remembered in the past which was exciting. A lot more vendors and shops set up. I wasn’t that impressed with the actual street performers though. I will admit that I didn’t see very many of them. But of those that I did watch, they seemed more interested in begging for money than they did in actually entertaining us....

Country Concert

Country Concert

Some of you may remember reading that I got free tickets to some concerts. August 6th was the only day I was actually free to go to any of them. It was a beautiful day. It was hot and sunny. The hottest day we had in a few weeks. The gates for the concert opened at 1:30pm and the first act was scheduled to go on at 2:30pm. I was planning on meeting up with a couple of girls from work at the concert. Unfortunately, one of them had to work until 3pm. I didn’t know the two bands...

Day 27 : This month, in great detail

July 1st was Canada Day. My boyfriend had a sore foot so he was having trouble walking but was able to make it up to the parade route where we sat on Citadel Hill to watch the Nova Scotia International Tattoo Canada Day parade. Then we went home for lunch and went back out to visit the Citadel because it is open for free on Canada Day. They say that they have free cake but every year that I go looking for it I can’t find it. My boyfriend was getting thirsty so we walked down to road and...

Day 24 : Whatever tickles your fancy

On July 17th it was Parks Day in Canada. My boyfriend and I spent the day exploring McNab’s Island. The day started off looking like it was going to rain on us but we were lucky. The morning was overcast which was actually perfect because even without the sun it was very warm out. We knew that once the sun came out we were going to die of heat. Shortly after we arrived on the island we took off to explore on our own. As we were walking down the dirt road I saw a deer cross in front...

Day 18 : Whatever tickles your fancy

July 18, 2010

Last weekend my city had their annual Zombie Walk. This is where anyone who wants to, dresses up like a Zombie and all walk together through the city. This year was the first time I was able to see this event and I was pretty excited that I wasn’t working that day. Unfortunately it was raining that day and my boyfriend didn’t want to go so I ended up going alone. But I had fun. Here is a video I took as they were walking by.

Day 06 : Whatever tickles your fancy

As many of you have already read, Queen Elizabeth was in Halifax visiting. Her schedule was posted online so I tried to follow her around to catch some glimpses of her. I noticed very early on that the Queen is not very punctual. We stood out in the pouring rain to wait for her to arrive. By the time I got to hear her speak we were soaked. And then I had to go straight to work. The next day I followed her as she left her house and went on a boat to participate in the Fleet Review...

Summer Has Begun

Summer Has Begun

For any of you who have been following my blog since last summer may remember me talking about all the festivities that go on in my hometown. This weekend seems to have been the kick off. Navy ships started coming into the harbour last week as part of Halifax International Fleet Review. Friday I spent the morning looking around at the ships (and sailors) that are visiting us for a few more days. Yesterday my boyfriend and I even got to go on some of them. We really wanted to go on the aircraft carrier so we stood in...

Part Two: Mystery Man

In my last blog entry I told you about a boy I had noticed on the bus and how I’ve been collecting clues on him. Well, I have some more to add to that story. This past Saturday my boyfriend’s university held a charity event to raise money for kids. The main event was teams of people from different faculties of the university pulling a car around a track in the parking lot. When we arrived at the school I saw someone that I’m pretty sure was the same guy from the bus. Assuming that it was him, I...

Europe Trip 2009

September 21, 2009

I added pictures from my trip to Europe for you to look at. Here is the story that goes with it. Monday September 7, 2009 Our plane was scheduled to leave at 10pm but we had to be at the airport three hours earlier because it was an international flight. So we had some time to waste at the airport. We bought some drinks and played cards to make the time go faster. My boyfriend and I were sharing a drink and were trying to conserve it so we didn’t drink very much, this is important for later in...

Europe

September 7, 2009

Today’s the day. The day that I head out for Europe. I’ve been awake since 6am. But I can’t start packing because my boyfriend is still in bed. At this time tomorrow my plane should be getting ready to land in Amsterdam. I will be back in a couple of weeks with my pictures and stories. See you then!

I’m back

August 30, 2009

You may have noticed that I disappeared for a while there. But I’m back now. Life has been busy this month. I have been working 4 days a week and feel like I don’t really have any time off for myself. But I’m not complaining because that’s probably going to change soon. I don’t have many shifts next month but there are a couple reasons for that. The first reason is because school is starting and I am hoping that I will be able to get some subbing in because the money is a lot better than at the...

Festivities Continue

August 10, 2009

The festivities in Halifax have been continuing. We went to the Pride Parade and it was great. Last weekend was Natal Day (Halifax’s birthday) so we got to go to another parade which was okay and we went to some more fireworks. I was not impressed with these fireworks though. They were probably the worst firework display I have seen put on by Halifax. The fireworks started and then stopped after three minutes. Then a few minutes later it started up again. Then they stopped again for another minute. Finally they started up again and then stopped. I was...

Work

July 22, 2009

The job has been going well. Everyday I am learning more and feeling more confident. I haven’t been getting as many shifts as I would like but I will have more next month so I’m excited. I can’t wait to get to the point where I was in my last job where I had total confidence and was really good at what I had to do. I’m sure I will get there sometime. Last weekend we had the Tall Ships festival in town. That means a bunch of big sailing boats came and were parked down on the waterfront...

First Day

July 4, 2009

I had my first day at the new job yesterday and it went pretty well. I think the hardest part is going to be trying to find out where everything is located. But once I feel confident with that part of the job, I think I’m going to enjoy it there. I was worried about learning how to use their cash registers but I think I will catch on quickly. Canada Day was on Wednesday. My boyfriend was away in Las Vegas ( ) so I spent the day with my friend and her children. We got to go...
