Last week Winston and I went on vacation. We took a week off just to relax and have fun. We had planned on going camping from Monday to Friday but the weather wasn’t on our side so we cut it short on Wednesday. We got to do most of the things we wanted to do at the campground which included biking, hiking, and canoeing. One day Winston and I took a bike ride/hike up to a camp site that our friend said he was going to be staying at. It took us about 45 minutes to get there only to find out that he didn’t show up. On our last day we went in the canoe but the water was a little rougher than we would have liked.
Thursday was our recharge day where we mostly just sat around the apartment and did a few chores. It was rainy out (one of the reasons we came home early from camping) so there wasn’t much to do that day anyway. Friday the sun was out again so we went with my family to their summer house for the day. We took our bikes and drove them to the beach. It was the perfect day for the beach so we enjoyed ourselves a lot. That night we had a weenie roast for supper and then went out in our boat for a drive. We finished off the day with some fireworks.
Saturday we decided to go check out the new Farmers Market. We mostly just went to look around. I did buy a piece of fudge which was the only thing I had planned on buying so it worked out well. Also on Saturday I had found out that it was the 2nd birthday of a store called Susie’s Shortbreads and that they would be giving away a free gift to the first 60 customers. I don’t know if you know me that well yet, but I LOVE free stuff
. I had been wanting to visit this store for a while and a few months ago Winston’s sister gave me a cupcake from there which made me want to go even more (they are delicious!). So we went to check it out. I bought some shortbread cookies (my favorite!) and a cupcake. The free gift was another cupcake! Winston said that if I had bought two cupcakes I would have gotten another one free but oh well. I don’t want to get too fat
.
Then on Sunday it was hot out again. We decided to go into my parents house to go for another bike ride (there isn’t really anywhere in town to ride our bikes). We biked for about an hour on the Rails to Trails (named because they turned the train tracks into a trail) which is an excellent trail for bikers. I never realized how pretty the lakes were around my childhood home before. It was a pretty great bike ride and a wonderful way to finish off our vacation.

Sounds like a fun time! Those scenery pictures are absolutely gorgeous. I’ve always wanted to do a camping trip but I’m not too much of an outdoors person haha…might try at some point though! Oh and that bbq pizza looks super delicious.
Aww, a week-long vacation, I’d love that now! Haha! Sorry that you had to cut the trip short though! =( Hahahah, I LOVE free stuff too. So I’m assuming you’re one of the first 60 customers? You had to buy something to get it free? A lot of places here just gives you free stuff, no purchase neccessary.
Haha, I love the name Rails to Trails!

Yes I was one of the first 60 customers and you did have to buy something to get the free cupcake. But I had been waiting to go buy a cupcake there all summer so it wasn’t a big deal. I did get a free cookie though as I was waiting in line
. I will have to go back before the end of this month because I got a card for three free cookies. It doesn’t say anything about needing to buy anything to get them but I wouldn’t mind getting another cupcake
.
That looks so beautiful! Glad you had fun. There’s not much better than free baked stuff
Maybe you should have called them before making that long trip to their site only to find out they weren’t there. How rough was the water?

Nah, half the fun of going to visit the friends was the adventure to get there. Everyone (Winston and his parents) were doubting that I could make it there and back so I also had to prove them wrong. I don’t like it when people assume I can’t do things because they don’t see me do them that often. I don’t know why they don’t think I am not fit enough to do things sometimes.
The water wasn’t that rough, but because we were in a canoe it was worse. There were some white caps on the water and on the way back his father was having a lot of trouble trying to keep the boat going in the right direction. Winston’s mom was starting to freak out a little bit and she said that was a trip she did not want to repeat.
Wow, you’re such an active person! It’s been ages since I last went canoeing or camping for that matter.
Aww sounds like you had a lot of fun! Also, cooking pizza on the BBQ is so fun! I’ve only done it a few times with the boyfriend, but it always comes out awesome. At first I was afraid it wouldn’t cook through, but it did!
The farmer’s market you went to sounds great. We have had a few here in the summer, but I didn’t get to them this year sadly. =[ I love browsing all of the fresh produce and goodies!
Your vacation sounds fun! I’m not a camping girl. I’m more of a cabin girl. I do love hiking, canoeing, etc. though. They are great outdoor activities! I also love bonfires and roasting marshmallows at night. I’ve never tried pizza though, maybe next time!
That certainly sounds like a lovely way to end summer vacation
What was it that you were cooking? Looks like pizza. If it is, how cool! Homemade pizza while camping sounds awesome.

It is pizza. It was the first time I have ever seen it cooked on a BBQ but it turned out fine.
Oh that’s pretty nifty, Rails to Trails. I don’t recall the last time I went on a bike ride but you are surely doing a lot of that!
I am glad you had such an eventful weekend and yay for cupcakes. I don’t blame you for liking free things, I know I surely like free things too! =P
You took some beautiful pictures, hehe barbecuing pizza what a nifty idea!
I’ve never been camping =(
Take care!
I am by no means a nature girl, and I’ve never had the opportunity to go camping..but MAN does this sound like fun! A break away from electronics, ringing cellphones and buzzing computers might actually be nice (:
