Buskers and Iceland

Buskers Buskers
Every year in Halifax there is a festival called the Busker Festival. I try to make it down at least once every year and this year was not an exception. They had a lot more going on this year then I remembered in the past which was exciting. A lot more vendors and shops set up. I wasn’t that impressed with the actual street performers though. I will admit that I didn’t see very many of them. But of those that I did watch, they seemed more interested in begging for money than they did in actually entertaining us. I liked the festival better when the performers just wanted to show us what they could do and leave it up to us to pay what we felt they deserved.

Icelandic Settlement
Also last week I went on a road trip with my parents. Originally the plan was to go to the beach and go on a hike at a park. But the weather wanted to be rainy that day so we decided to instead visit an Icelandic Settlement that we didn’t know existed. Basically it was a dirt road with points along it marked where settlements used to be. Now the homesteads are just holes in the ground. We didn’t explore the area as much as I would have liked because the road was so rough that we were scared we would pop a tire on the van lol . But we still had a fun day.

Aww that is so cute that you are doing all these festive things in Halifax. I should get out more and do all those fun things in Florida xD. I did go to the Fair in February but that’s all I did really xD. Oh and the amusement park haha nothing as interesting as what you have been doing though!

Maybe you should rent like a 4×4 for that Icelandic trip next time xD

    Take care xx

Sounds like you’ve had fun at the festival and on the trip with your parents. Hmm, you couldn’t have walked Icelandic Settelement? LOL.

It would have been a pretty long walk and my parents get tired quick haha.

er i’m afraid of driving a car whose tire just burns out! i’m sure i wouldn’t have been too happy driving on that road you speak of, haha. and the festival looks cool in the pictures, even if you weren’t that moved. what is that man doing though? lol

    Deanna Reply:

The men had this kind of teeter totter thing. One person would stand on one end and then another person would jump on the other end sending the first guy into the air.

Hmm, that’s really not the point with street performers, they should expect nothing really. And they usually try so hard to earn something! :-( Too bad :-/ Icelandic..? As in from Iceland? I guess the climates right :D I have a Nova Scotian dog hehe :D I’d love to visit the place someday :-D

    Deanna Reply:

Yeah as in Iceland. I guess back in the day they brought people over from Iceland to live in Nova Scotia.

I am glad to hear that you had a fun vacation with your parents, and it seems as if it would be a great time. I would have loved to go to the Icelandic Settlement. :)

Wow, that sounds like fun. I would have loved to do some more exploring in the settlement as well. The festival looks like fun too. I always love seeing street performers.

Wowzer, that guy can really jump! Do they get prizes for events or something? The Icelandic settlement sounds awesome even if it was just markings. I love old stuff like that!

They don’t really get prizes. Each year the public gets to vote on which act is their favorite but I don’t think they actually get anything except for maybe some extra advertising.

Oh I love Busker festival! We have different kind here but it’s all very entertaining. I would never be brave enough to do what they did in front of so many people.

And thank you! I’m not really good with art but I try ((:

Cool. Is it just a festival for the sake of a festival or is it based on something? But anyways, yeah I think it subtracts from the experience when it’s so obvious they want money. One time we paid to take a tour through this famous House, and at the end the tourguide was like, “I know there’s a big ol’ sign here engraved in the wall that says TIPS, but I honestly don’t expect you folks to pay me anything. I’m just here to be your tour guide and I hope I made your experience enjoyable” or something along those lines. And THAT totally got him a lot of tips. Reverse psychology, haha.

They have been having this festival every year since I can remember. I don’t really know how it got started.

That festival looks so fun! I’ve never heard of that type of thing before. I must try to find one sometime!

Everyone is hurting for money, I guess even the street performers are begging for more money now since things are much tougher. They should have focused on entertaining though.

It sounds like you had fun at the festival. That’s sad about the street performers since if they would have actually entertained the crowd instead of begging for money, they would have gotten more money! That is what they are there for, to entertain, duh.
